High Street CCTV: Phase One of the project has been installed and is operating 24/7 covering the High Street between Delvino and the Coop. Phase Two will be installed in due course (no time frame available) and will cover the High Street from Garrie’s Corner to the Glendevon Hotel. Provision of signage is awaited.
The project came about when a spate of vandalism, petty crime and unsociable behaviour occurred in the High Street last year. The Bloom Association suffered badly on a number of occasions. The police, on being approached, suggested CCTV to fill the void in community policing (lack of police numbers and budget).
The cost was shared with PKC and the town’s share (£8,700) was provided by the Auchterarder & District Community Trust. There is no timeframe given at present on the start of phase two owing to limited technical resources in PKC. Phase two is technically more difficult to achieve.
