Volunteering is good for the soul! Its like a free dose of happiness. Not only are you helping others, but you're also boosting your own mood and overall well-being. It's a win-win situation!

A good volunteering match is one which aligns with your beliefs and results in you feeling a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Many people want to be more involved in the community but don't know where to start - that's where this part of the site helps. You'll find a list of currently available, local opportunities - whether you're looking for something to dip your toe into from time to time, something that will give you a chance to meet others, develop new skills or opportunities that provide a longer term opportunity to be involved, hopefully you'll find something which appeals.

Our Community Action Plan is all about our Community coming together to make things happen so check back here regularly and you're sure to find a way to be involved that fits for you!

CAP Traffic and Public Transport Working Group

The traffic and public transport group are making significant progress towards the projects identified in the CAP – from parking surveys to exploring a coordinated approach to public transport. They’d love to hear from positive people who could contribute their thoughts and ideas to making the road network easier and safer for all. From kids traveling to school to raising awareness of what’s available for getting around the area. Perhaps you’re organised and could help progress the public transport guide?

Time Commitment: The group meet around 4 times per year.

Poppy Appeal 2024

Although poppy cans do not hit the streets until October for this year’s local poppy appeal, planning for it starts in the first half of the year.  Many of the volunteers who have helped in the past have either moved on or have stood down from house-to-house collecting.  It is evident that new volunteers need to come forward if the town’s local appeal is to match last year’s effort of just under £6K; only two or three areas of the town will be covered with current volunteer numbers. House-to-house collectors are needed for the following areas: Muir Estate, Benton Road Estate, North Crofts, Kincardine Road/Sydney Crescent, Parkside, Glenorchil Crescent/Place/Terrace and Orchil Road/Grampian & Easthill.  If you can give up a couple of evenings in October to support Armed Forces veterans in need, please contact David Homewood, Area Organiser on 01764 663049.

Auchterarder in Bloom

Bloom are currently bringing on 2000 plants for the colourful displays in town.

They rely on having a group of people whom they can call on at various points in the year – potting on, weekly watering of the young plants, clearing out and planting into the main planters. It’s a pleasurable thing to be involved with, not at all onerous.

If you’d like to join the mailing list for this, leave your details and we will pass them onto the Bloom organiser!

Time commitment – An hour or two on an ad hoc basis.

Path Tidies

Do you have a couple of hours to lend a hand whilst enjoying the local paths? And are you a dab hand with a litter picker, strimmer or set of pruners? Further information available HERE

Friends of Aytoun Hall Committee Members

Friends of Aytoun Hall look after the inventory of items in the Aytoun Hall - this helps us all enjoy the facilities of the hall for the various events that happen there. Committee members meet bi-monthly, planning events and fundraising to support running of the hall. Involvement doesn't require a lot of time, just your enthusiasm and wisdom - having the input of peoples thoughts and ideas is valued. If you'd like to find out more contact aanda.cap@gmail.com and we'll put you in touch with the group.

Repair Cafe

We're keen to hear from people who would be interested in volunteering a couple of hours from time to time to help participate in a repair cafe - the idea is that many items could have their life extended with a little repair, whether that's a bit of sewing, some glueing, tightening up, but some people don't know how to do this - and therefore the items end up being chucked out. Wouldn't it be great to see things being reused more and also to help people learn a new skill? Interested to hear more? This project would be in partnership with Remake and they've significant experience in this area. Contact aanda.cap@gmail.com initially.

Sports Hub Volunteer Trustees

We’re here today to put a call out to everyone in the community to help us find new volunteers to join the Trustee Board. The current board is down to 4 members, 3 of which have been on since inception of the working group nearly five years ago and we desperately need new members to help keep us fresh, bring in some new ideas and allow for long serving trustees to step down in the not too distant future.
The role is not onerous, a massive amount of work by the current volunteers has brought us here to a fully functioning community resource with nearly two thousand users per month and our lovely team of staff keep the Hub running very effectively. We provide oversight, governance and fulfill our charitable status requirements and, at the moment, only need to meet every 2 months for official Trustee business.
There’s some exciting things happening in the coming months but we really need help to facilitate those and keep this community resource going. If you think you could be interested (and we’d love to have some users of the hub join us) please message and one of the trustees would be happy to talk through what’s involved.

Street Pastors

Street Pastors: Caring, Listening, Helping
We would like to see Street Pastors established in Auchterarder during the school lunch break. Street Pastors are trained volunteers who give an hour of their week to wander up and down the High Street chatting to young people. There is no agenda with street pastoring, it's ordinary people engaging with young people through non-judgemental friendship. Listening, caring and helping our secondary school community.
• Are you available over lunchtime? Just one lunchtime a week or even just one a month?
• Do you have a heart for young people?
• Do you have a big smile?
• Do you have a 12 month connection with a church?
We are hoping to start Street Pastors in Auchterarder in September but we need a good number of volunteers to get us started. Initially we will just commit to one lunchtime a week but would hope to grow to two or maybe three depending on the number of volunteers who get involved. We will set-up a rota, you can choose to volunteer every week or just once a month.

Speak to Michelle or email michelle.livingstone@auchterarderparish.org to chat it over, or sign up for the training.
