NEWS UPDATE – NOVEMBER 2024
Hello to all our amazing Auchterarder Bloom Association (ABA) volunteers. Hopefully, this newsletter finds you well and no doubt, starting to prepare for Christmas.
Changes in the ABA are happening, which you may or may not be aware of and so this newsletter is to bring you up to date.
Since COVID, the committee and a handful of volunteers have worked hard to maintain all the beautiful planters up and down our High Street with a much depleted team. On behalf of residents of our “Lang Toon”, THANK YOU so much for all your efforts.
Sadly, several of the ABA committee are no longer with us and over the last 2 years, Patsy Nicholls has coordinated the “workforce of volunteers” to ensure the planters continue to look amazing. Patsy is now retiring and leaves big boots to fill. THANK YOU PATSY for….well everything really!
So what happens now? If we don’t pull together and form a new ABA committee, then unfortunately, the ABA will cease to officially function, as it needs a quorum of at least 4/5. This could potentially mean the loss of the licences to ABA allowing us to occupy spaces like Garries Corner and the unique Heritage Mill Wheel at St Margaret’s along with the disappearance of the lovely planters. After all the hard work over the years, this would be such a shame given the immense impact this association has given in terms of pleasure, to the local residents and tourists over the years.
Good news, as a temporary gap filler; a couple of volunteers have come forward, strictly on an interim basis, to ensure continuity of the Auchterarder Bloom Association. Sheila Vanston (Chairperson), John Boyd (Treasurer) and Keron Magee (Vice Chairperson/Secretary). The aim is to set up an SGM/AGM in early 2025 to officially elect a new committee and also actively expand the number of volunteers going forward.
This is where the Auchterarder Bloom Association urgently needs your help…..
- Do you have spare time to be a committee member?
- Do you know other like- minded souls who could help with planting/watering at key times through the year
If so, we would love to hear from you asap. There are so many opportunities in the community for the ABA to deliver, but we need more hands and feet in the mud!
