Friday Focus – Rotary

This weeks Friday focus is the Rotary:

The club meet twice monthly, first and third Thursday at 7pm in the Golf Club and have a variety of interesting speakers and topics in their meetings – Last night they hosted a Burns Supper celebration for 120 people!

Their aim is to make a difference to the community around them and to larger world community via the global Rotary network. They’re particularly active in youth support including annual Rotary competitions for Young Musician, Young Artist, Young Chef, Young Photographer and Young Writer; a Primary Schools’ Quiz, RYLA (a leadership week for young people) and many other regular or ad hoc events.  Their support for International causes include, amongst others, regular contributions to ShelterBox and ‘End Polio Now’.

Some current Rotary projects:

Rotary are commited to celebrating the activities of the Young people in our area:

  • Presently they’re revewing applications to the young phogographer and writer competitions having judged the young musicians competition last week.
  • Nominations are invited to the Young Sports Person Awards – Closing date 8th March. See the poster below for detail and entry forms can be found on ACSR’s site here
  • They’re involved in the Primary Quiz and are also inviting young people to take part in the Young Film Maker competition too! Have a look at their Youth Programme here for more info

They’re also part of the ACSR Green Spaces CAP group, taking forward plans to create a memorial garden for Sandy Gun – an RAF pilot who took part in the great escape in WW2 – he was from Auchterarder and they’d like to share his story!
