Welcome to December’s newsletter! You’ll find below, a copy of “what’s on” for this month, a pdf version of this newsletter and the Advice Hub calendar for December – this includes a visit from the Heat project, timely in this colder weather. Please do feel free to share this with friends and neighbours.

Music notation with solid fill There are many festive activities planned for this month in addition to the usual group meetings. One event that I would particularly like to draw your attention to is the free “Christmas Music and Carols Concert”  Tuesday 17th at 12.30pm in the Aytoun Hall. It’s a lovely way to spend a lunchtime listening to the talented young musicians from the school whilst having a mince pie and a cuppa and wonderful link between the school and the community.

For information about the other events, please head over to our website for more information

Library news: Would you like to be involved in exploring solutions for ensuring that we have library provision after March 2025? We have a newly formed working group who have links with the other rural libraries at risk forming a “Save our Rural Libraries” campaign. Please get in touch via saveauchterarderlibrary@gmail.com.

We believe that PK Culture will be returning to host a second meeting in Auchterarder in early December, date to be announced.

Biodiversity News: We had a superb turnout to the Biodiversity Mapping session on the 17th and are thrilled to announce that Auchterarder has been awarded the status of being a Biodiversity Town. This is in recognition of the work carried out by ACSR Green Spaces, ACSR Core Paths, APC Community Garden, Bloom, Allotment Association, St Kessogs Garden. We’ll have further news to share about tree planting, foraging pathways, and hedgehog rescue in the next newsletter. If you’d like to find out more about the larger projects, the next Green Spaces meeting is on the 17th, 7pm in the Pavillion. Everyone is always welcome to come along and hear more about the projects! If you’re looking for something where you can get stuck into some green space activity, there are two Core Paths tidy sessions – one on the 6th and another on the 15th. Meet at 10am at the Pavillion.

All the groups involved would welcome new volunteers along – it’s a great opportunity to meet others who share a passion for nature. And one group who are particularly needing a bit of support is Bloom – Our town is a more colourful place thanks to their efforts and if you’ve got time to spare with organising, watering or planting out, they’d love to hear from you. Head over to the website to read more or contact keronmagee@btinternet.com

Kincardine Fields: We had a good turnout to the update meeting last week. It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about keeping Kincardine Fields as green space.

Here’s a quick update:

  • PKC has plans to build 100 houses on the site in 2029/2030.
  • We presented ideas for retaining and gentle enhancing this space instead. Community Orchard, outdoor play and learning space, walking routes.
  • We also discussed ways to retain the space as community land.

We need people to get involved or this will happen – can you help?

Email aanda.cap@gmail.com to be part of the group moving forward.

You might have organisational skills you can bring, or know another community who’ve done the same, you might be a great communicator who’s happy to set up a whatsapp group to keep people informed or share news on the Friends of Kincardine Fields page. We’re having a community meeting about how the new group will work and what their aims will be – if you’d like to come along to this, its on Wednesday 14th of January at 7pm in the Pavillion.

Pound with solid fillIn case you’ve missed it – the new Banking Hub is open! We have a post on the website about this if you’d like to read more

Date for the diary: Connected Community Event: Come along and meet the wide range of community groups active in Auchterarder and Aberuthven. If you’re a community group who’d like to have a table, I’ll be sending invites detailing more about the event shortly – thank you to those who have signed up for a table already!
