Town Centre & Local Economy

The “Lang Toon” of Auchterarder is reputed to have the longest high street in Scotland. The lack of a physical focus and a central gathering point in the town centre has been identified. This could be created through pedestrianisation and the addition of seating and planting. Parking, year-round toilet facilities, and safe crossing places were also deemed important to improve the town centre.

As a town centre, Auchterarder offers a strong range of independent shops and eateries much appreciated by locals. Aberuthven compliments Auchterarder in offering a range of business units, a valued village pub and local shop.

It is important to support and promote these, to keep the local economy viable and to attract visitors. However, many people in the survey also commented that an additional supermarket would provide choice and affordability - while others were keen for more variety in the night-time economy.
