The community’s response to keeping our library was nothing short of incredible. It was inspiring to see so many of you show your appreciation for this community hub.
In April 2025 Pkc Councillors voted to provide funding to CPK that enabled our library to remain open for the next two years.
What happens in this two year period is critical to the long term provision of the library – we have a wonderful opportunity to shape the future of this amazing community hub. We also have the opportunity to demonstrate how and when we use the space – usage is measured in footfall, borrower numbers, people logging into the computers etc.
PLANS: Culture Perth and Kinross have been working with the community to explore what will work best in the Auchterarder Library and they’ve created a plan that will help our library thrive. Read about the progress of the plan HERE
MEETINGS: Monthly meetings take place and the next one happens on the 23rd of October at 5.45pm. Minutes from the September meeting can be found HERE. Everyone is welcome to attend, hear whats happening and make positive input.
This new chapter for our library will bring even more of the things you love and new opportunities to connect. Look forward to author visits (Best-selling author Denise Mina 21st Nov) events like Remake Crafting sessions (booking sheet in the library) and a new “Chat Corner.” There will also be digital support sessions, ancestry exploration (monthly Friday sessions), and a new “Community Corner.” This will be a dedicated space for local community groups to share information about their events and activities. (Please do bring in posters about your events and information about your group (what you do / how to get in touch etc A4 size ideal)
The goal is to make sure everyone in our community knows what’s available and feels welcome to join in—whether you’re picking up a new book or discovering something new to do!
The future of our library depends on all of us – make it a part of your routine, “borrow not buy” your books, find out about local events, use the computers, attend the library events. The best way to show how much this space means to our community is to walk through its doors. Every visit, every book you borrow, the time you spend here helps to prove its value.
History of the Local Campaign:
When the announcement was made that our library was at risk of closure, the community came together to stage a passionate campaign to save this valued space. The campaign reached national interest with other small library groups working together and the subject reaching parliamentary debate. Free to access community space does matter to people, people felt this especially important in Auchterarder as the town grows and people have greater need for community facilities. Both for the facility itself and for the need to create that important sense of community which binds people together.
